*A pair of important ceremonial armchairs with slanted and shouldered backs, made of richly carved and gilded wood, the armrests made of crosier ending with foliage, resting on rolling armrest consoles. The turned base is joined by an "H" spacer. On the facade, a crotch barrette with an openwork decoration of garlands, volutes and foliage. Louis XIV period. (Restorations, wear and tear). Used black leather trim. Height: 119 cm - Width: 63 cm - Depth: 70 cm A suite of four chairs of a similar model were sold on 21 June 2000 (Christie's London, lot 86). Two armchairs of an equally similar model were sold on March 30, 1999 (Christie's New York, lots 17-18). Finally, comparable models are today kept in the Château de Fontainebleau and illustrated in S. de Ricci, Louis XIV und Régence, Stuttgart, 1929, page 85.
