71. Henry DASSON Rare middle table of rectangular shape called "Table des Arts", in amaranth veneer, resting on four sheathed legs decorated with caryatids in term. Each representing an allegory of the Arts, in this case Music, Painting Painting, Sculpture and Poetry. The belt is decorated with a frieze of finely chiseled and gilded bronze decorated with foliage, putti and renown among trophies and attributes. It is topped by an Egyptian porphyry tray, the chased and gilded bronze lingotiere covered with draperies and foliage, held by ribbon bows. Signed DASSON, 1889. Louis XVI style, late 19th century. (Cracks in the porphyry tray, small cracks, missing a string to the lyre). H : 80 cm - W : 98 cm - D : 58 cm The Table des Arts that we present is reproduced in L'Ameublement d'art français 1850-1900, Camille Mestdagh, Les éditions de l'Amateur, Paris, 2010, pages 108 and 109 (fig. 105 and 106). Following the presentation of the Table des Quatre Saisons at the 1878 World's Fair in Paris, Henry Dasson exhibited the Table des Arts two years later, for the 1880 Exhibition. This last one is described at the time with a tray in lapis lazuli of Persia, framed of red jasper and whose frieze, openwork on bottom of lapis on the four faces is composed of a central cartouche with two renowned. At the time of the World Fair of 1889 in Paris, the general report of Alfred Picard, describes a small table that can - with all reservations - correspond to the model that we present: "Mr. Dasson whose universal credit defies all competition, presents us with a remarkable exhibition, in which the Louis XIV, Louis XV and Louis XVI styles flourish with brilliance we will quote his small Louis XVI table in old mahogany, porphyry top, with with four legs made of fine chased bronze statuettes, etc.".
