Viera paints here a masked attachment to reality, a dreamlike imprint of the observed spectacle. The big city and its infrastructures dominate his painting of the fifties (cf. The Great Constructions 1956, The Aerial Metro 1955, The Montparnasse Station 1957). The linear perspectives are accelerated, dizzying. In Port in the North however, space is approached in a more measured way, the colors and the light and the light close to the Nordic atmosphere.
