DROUINEAU. Gustave. Resigned. Paris, France. Charles Gosselin. 1833. 2 volumes in-8, eggplant half-calf, spines with ornate and faded nerfs, beige morocco titles and endpapers. Signed Bradel binding. Second edition illustrated with frontispieces. After the success of "Rienzi", which inspired Wagner's opera "L'Espion", Drouineau plunged into spirituality in 1833, then created a sect, stopped writing, and at the request of his family. This "religious novel", in the words of the author, marks this spiritualist turn.
