OEuvres complètes de Mme la baronne de Staël, published by her son
Paris, France. Treuttel et Würtz. 1820-1821. 17 volumes in-8, full long-grained red morocco
slightly rubbed, gilt fillet and cold decoration framing the boards, smooth spines,
gilt edges. Bindings signed P. Lalande.
Partly original edition, illustrated with a frontispiece portrait of the author and containing a note on
the life and works of Mme de Staël by Mme Necker de Saussure.
These complete works contain a large number of previously unpublished pieces and important
additions by the author.
The first volume is enlarged by two autograph letters in-12 signed by Mme de Staël:
- the first, signed N. de Staël, dated Friday October 2, is addressed to Vivant Denon. She proposes
proposes "to give you dinner with Lord Wellington, but the bad weather has delayed everything..."; she also
proposes another date: "I ask you to be there - we'll talk about Africa, and you'll help me picture it.
help me to imagine it".
Vivant Denon did indeed accompany Bonaparte to Egypt, and was later appointed director of the Musée du Louvre.

- the second, signed Necker de Staël, dated 1812, is addressed to one of her friends, to whom she
to whom she recommends a warm welcome for her secretary.
Ex-libris Franchetti. Some handwritten notes.
Bindings rather rubbed for volumes 1, 5, corners dulled overall, foxing, some light
slight dampening in volumes 2, 8, 14.
