[CARTOGRAPHY] - SPEED. John. The Turkish Empire. Georges Humble. (Published in 1627). 39 x 51 cm. Contemporary gilded wood frame. Asymmetrically cut margins. Magnificent English map of the Turkish Empire opening west from Italy, Greece, across the Middle East the Middle East via the Arabian Peninsula to the Russian, Tartar and Persian borders. Here you can the Mediterranean, Black, Caspian and Red Seas. On the left, the map features five full-length portraits of Greeks, Egyptians, Assyrians, Arabs and Persians and their wives on the right. In the upper border, the cities of Famagusta, Damascus, Jerusalem, Constantinople, Rhodes, Alexandria and Ormus. In contemporary colors. Beautiful cartouche with the arms of Turkey, with a crescent moon surmounting the title and a scale. At lower right corner "Are to be sold in pops-head Alley by G. Humble." The recto contains a text describing the region, not visible with the framing.
