CHARON. Louis-François. A thousand successes against one setback. The setback of a moment will be erased a long Glory is ineffaceable. Paris, Jean, Editeur, Rue St Jean de Beauvais N°10, (1819). Aquatint à la roulette depicting an allegory to the glory of the Empire Engraved by Louis-François Charon after Aubry. A grenadier, his arm in a sling, writes on the rock with the point of a bayonet: "Vingt cinq ans de Conquests. France alone against the whole of Europe". Opposite him, at left, Wellington, bareheaded, writes on the ground at the point of his sword: "Waterloo 1815. Invasion of France by five allied powers". The engraving has a counterpart: La Valeur est immortelle en France (1814 conscripts).
