We would like to thank Mme Anne-Cécile Martin of the Association Jean Peské for kindly authenticating this work.
Arriving in Paris in 1891, he befriended the painters in the Académie Julian milieu
who would soon become known as the Nabis. He then came under the influence of another avant-garde movement, Neo-Impressionism, particularly the painters Luce and Signac, and the critic
Félix Fenéon.
Our painting is part of this movement: dotted strokes, synthetic drawing,
braising colors, but the softness of the scene is also indebted to the Intimism of the Nabis.
of the Nabis.
