Jean CHAKIR, cartoonist
Jean CHAKIR was born in 1934, which makes him one of the last cartoonists, along with a few others, to have worked for forty years for the 9th Art: The Comic Strip. At the age of seventeen, he began his career as a humorist and news cartoonist for the French press, then for the comic strip in illustrated newspapers from 1952 to 1988. Addressing all the subjects of society and daily life with derision, he is a talented jack-of-all-trades who has cumulated all the trades of press drawing and 9th art as a scriptwriter, draftsman, letterer, inker, and colorist, realizing more than 1,250 drawings of humor for the illustrated press, games, covers and especially several series of successful comic strips such as the adventures of " Seraphin, Angelure and Tracassin"for the newspaper PILOTE, " Inspector Saboum"for Bayard or the adventures of " Heroic and the Dog-Boys" At the age of sixty, in June 1994, he retires, but works since then on a personal series still unpublished which counts more than ten albums and more than one thousand pages: " the Double-immigrant". Many stories and gags published in periodicals have been reissued in albums by the Angoulême publisher Le Coffre à BD from 2007 to 2014.
