JOEL ROUX (born 1948)

Trained at the Beaux-Arts de Bayonne in 1968-1970, Joël ROUX, born in 1948 in Paris, never left his adopted Basque country.

Over the years, the artist imbibed the vernacular culture in his subjects ("bull", "dance"), while at the same time breaking away from it in form. Resolutely modernist, his sculpture follows in the great tradition of PICASSO, ARP or MOORE. His canvases, in their construction or lyricism, verge on abstraction, sometimes reminiscent of DE STAEL and sometimes of the "action painting" movement.

Joël ROUX has been the subject of numerous exhibitions, and is represented in French public collections.
